Meet Gus, the result of a comprehensive suspension overhaul. This allowed us to drastically improve vehicle handling and durability over the previous year. Building on the reliability established by "Gertie," this was the next step in our mission to increase the team's competitiveness. Despite a couple wrecks, the team secured a 47th place finish at the competition—showing improvement as we continue to rebuild GW Baja back into a competitive team

Get ready for Gertie, our lightest car to date.  This car  improved upon "Black Ice" in a number of ways, with a main focus on reliability. This was the first year with the more powerful Kohler CH440 engine, so much of the drivetrain was redesigned to be able to handle the increased load. The team secured 62nd place in Williamsport after a number of setbacks during the competition.

2021/2022

Originally named "Black Ice", this car was our fastest to date. A car designed during the COVID-19 epidemic, light-weighting to become faster was the goal. This car was the first to feature 4WD capabilities, utilizing a front differential and a chain for the power transfer from back-front. The same gearbox from "Baby Blue" was utilized, but made lighter and thinner. The team placed 64th in Rochester in the summer. After resolving issues with the 4WD and the light weighted components, the team took on SAE Arizona and took 27th.

Informally referred to as ‘Baby Blue’, the 2018/2019 car was our best-performing vehicle since the rejuvenation of the GW Baja program in 2015. This vehicle features an aluminum double-wishbone suspension, a custom designed, house-manufactured gearbox, simplified front-braced frame, HDPE body panels, and a custom carbon fiber seat. Significant weight reductions and carefully engineered, reliable components helped Baby Blue secure 20th place overall at the 2019 Baja SAE Tennessee Tech international competition.

2018/2019

Introducing Bessie. Thanks to its reverse gear, this vehicle could maneuver out of tight spots and find traction where otherwise scarce. The team pursued a new avenue in composites, using a 5-axis mill to CNC the plug for our custom carbon fiber seat. Lessons learned from Bessie would provide a solid foundation to iterate off in 2019. The team placed 62nd in Baja SAE Maryland.
